Let's get existential

Mushmouth here.

Truly, this is a difficult time to be alive, our age, and living in this country. Over the past few weeks, friends and I have debated the future of not only the country, but also of the world as a whole. Now, we here at the Bridal Shower don't condone capitalism at all, and feel that basing your life on material objects is one of the most wicked things one can do. However, we did not choose to be born into a country that places so much importance on "stuff". This is the unfortunate truth of where we live, and we have only been able to watch as things have slowly started to degrade themselves.

EXAMPLE: I listen to NPR on my way to and from work everyday, and for the past few weeks, all I've been hearing about is how another large firm on wall street has collapsed only to be pulled by the government out of the shit they've created for themselves. Recently, somebody made the comment that this is what it must have felt like to live at the end of the Roman empire. As the system collapses, the citizens at large entertain themselves with mindless bullshit that hides the fact that things are going wrong. Natural disasters tear away whole communities, and the economy threatens to fall completely, but, hey, lets watch some wrestling! Fuck.

It's pretty obvious from what I've already written, but let me just come out and say that we don't agree with the current republican administration's way of handling things. Both Kid Supreme and I feel that, if McCain is elected, we will have to move to another country. We're afraid of what is to come, friends of The Bridal Shower. So afraid. In a few months, depending on how people vote, you may be hearing from us via Montreal, or Oaxaca, or who knows where. All we know is that things are pretty bad.

Now, these things are pretty bad, but, as I spoke with my friend Nilla yesterday, we decided that this country breeds apathy. We talked about not knowing just where in life we were headed, and the search for something to believe in. These things may sound cliched and trivial, but they really are some of the major things that have been on this Bridal Showerer's mind. What does the future hold? A job? Poverty? all of this ties in with the above statements, but also supersedes them. So many things that I feel cannot be expressed with words. This is just a fraction of what I want to say.

Never fear, though. I don't let these things get me down all the time. My friends are where I find solace in my life. We find things for ourselves to become interested in. Although music is the main focus in my life, I rather enjoy making films. My university friends and I have recently began shooting a new film, entitled, "The Agony of Aging". It sounds pretentious, I know, and, as we started, it was supposed to be a joke. Now, however, we feel as though we actually have a message to get across, and will stick true to what the title suggests. Plan to hear more as the film is completed.

Thus ends another blog. I will be seeing Kid Supreme at the end of the week, and you better believe we're gonna practice the shit out of The Bridal Shower. Also, let me mention that friends of The Bridal Shower are now listed to the right.

Thank you, and I really do love you,

Mushmouth

YOGA FLAME

Hello all, this is your old friend Mushmouth, here with another enthralling edition of the blog.

First of all, let me start by saying that I am incredibly jealous of Kid Supreme's ability to easily venture into Providence and go to legitimate noise shows there. I hope to visit him at his University in the coming weeks, and perhaps we will document these days that are sure to be exceptional.

Secondly, I would like to fill you in on my weekend. I was stuck in the state of Connecticut...BUT! There was hope on the horizon! I Am Festival, a music festival that has taken place for the last few years in New London, Connecticut, once again "went down" (as the kids say) this weekend. I'm sure you're saying "So what, Mushmouth? Why does this interest me in any way?" Well, the reasons are threefold. Firstly, our friends Brava Spectre performed, and played a terrific set, with a new memeber whose name escapes me at the moment. Secondly, and just as importantly, one of our favorite bands, Oneida, played, and was all that I hoped them to be. I believe they played all of their new album 'Preteen Weaponry', as well as a few other songs. Finally, a new favorite of mine, Jay Reatard, closed the festival. His set was rambunctious and energetic, juts as I had heard it would be. Also as I had heard, he had a short fuse, and walked off stage when a mic cable got lodged in his hair, ending the set. As my friend Dr. Drazen so eloquently put it, "all the kings horses are over there trying to get it out", and indeed, it seemed like Jay Reatard was surrounded by people trying to remove this mic cable from his hair. The bassist in his band (and I suggest at this point you google Jay Reatard band or Jay Reatard Bassist to get an idea of who I'm talking about) took this as an opportunity to come back out onstage, pants nowhere to be found, and take off his shirt, wearing just his skivvies. A very entertaining night.

So, as you can see, Connecticut wasn't the shit show it normally is this weekend, as we imported a few bands from elsewhere to entertain us, and took advantage of one of the few good things happening in CT (that'd be you, Brava) as well.

As this blog comes to a close, let me once again say, the lost vlog will still be put up. Yours truly just needs to do some fine tuning, and then all will be well, and it will expose itself to the world. ALSO, WE HAVE SOME BIG NEWS COMING YOUR WAY. WE JUST HAVE TO NAME IT.

Think on that.

Noise Noise Noise

Hello everybody, Kid Supreme signing in. Last night I had the opportunity to get better acquainted with the Noise Rock scene of Providence, RI and I have to say I was extremely impressed. The show at a venue called AS220 which is a huge proponent for the arts in Rhode Island and to my understanding put on a lot of shows that feature Noise bands. Last night had two bands from New York and two bands that are local to the area. The two bands from New York were Talk Normal and Red Dawn II. Talk Normal was the last band that played, but was nonetheless really good. It is a twice piece band, a guitarist and a drummer. Something interesting that I found while watching this band was that the guitarist had a very similar playing style to yours truly, none other than Kid Supreme. The other band was a more Punk Rock oriented Noise band known as Red Dawn II. If you're familiar with films you would know that Red Dawn is a war film that was once recognized as the "most violent movie ever." Their band name is a reference to that violent war film and many of their songs were about horror films. They too were a two piece band, a guitarist and a drummer. The other two acts were local to the Providence area and both were a "one man band." One of the acts is called Lazy Magnet and was really interesting because he used live tape manipulation and if you know me you'd know that Mission of Burma is one of my personal favorites and to get to see something that was a part of their band was fantastic. The first "band" that played was a man that called himself Sky Jelly. He used a lot of loops and was really fun to see live. I actually had a chance to speak with him after the show and bought one of his demo's.
It's really great to see that Noise bands finally have an opportunity to get bigger. For all of you music history buffs, you know that Noise bands have been trying to make it since the 70's. Overall, I'd say it's safe to say that Noise music is here to stay. This fact is very comforting because many of the bands that played (specifically Talk Normal) have a very similar quality to The Bridal Shower.

Much Love,
Kid Supreme

P.S. Just remember that it's Noise because Indie Rock is for pussies.

Not a Vlog, but Instead a Blog

Hello faithful denizens of BridalShowertopia, this is Kid Supreme and I am here to bring you all up to speed. As you already know I have started classes and things are going quite well, but what you didn't already know is that Mushmouth too has started classes.
I don't think we've mentioned yet that we do have a show coming up, of course not for a while as it is October 27th. Details are a little foggy, so we'll mention more about this once we attain more information. What I do need to tell you is that it is being put on by a fabulous band, I recommend you listen to if you haven't already, known as Brava Spectre.
In other news I have actually met a few people here at University who also play music. One such band is called Watergate and are an interesting Latino/Jazz band with rapping vocals over the music. I advise you to check out their myspace, they only have one instrumental up currently, but it is a very good song.
While I am on the topic of music, I figure I should introduce our faithful of some bands I have only recently heard about and if you haven't already you should definitely listen to. The Dead Science has a third album out entitled Villainaire, fantastic album and I'm hoping to hear their earlier work as well. The Dead Science is a very interesting experimental pop band, I am currently having a difficult time thinking of bands that are similar. Another band is Truckasauras with (I believe it is anyway) their debut album Tea Parties, Guns & Valor. Really cool Chiptune music, they used circuit bent instruments (hey! that's like us!) like gameboys and some unconventional instruments like the Commodore 64, which I have always wanted to use as an instrument. There is also a classic Noise act known as Skullflower. The album I have is called Desire For A Holy War, it's very good and obviously has influenced many noise bands that will come later on and bands that have influenced The Bridal Shower. Upon listened to this album I have come to the conclusion that Shit and Shine has drawn a lot of influence from Skullflower. The last band I want to talk about is Bardo Pond with their album Bufo alvarius, amen 29:15. Wonderful Space Rock/Shoegaze album, another important band that has likely influenced so many bands that have had an impact on Mushmouth and I as musicians.

So, here ends another blog, sorry it couldn't be a vlog but I do not possess that kind of technology at the moment.

Much love,
Kid Supreme

P.S. And as a final note I just witnessed an Asian kid in the bathroom with no pants on looking at himself in the mirror. It was a fucked up.

Lovelies
